Substitute Teacher

The Position:
This position will fill in as a substitute teacher while the regular teacher is absent from their position. This position will not maintain a regular schedule, utilization will occur as “on-call or as needed.” The term of the appointment may be for one to two days (illness) or for a longer term (maternity leave, extended illness) depending upon the nature of the Teacher's absence. The person selected for this position will be responsible for the care and supervision of the children assigned on a daily basis. She/he will be directly responsible to ensure that continuity of care is maintained throughout the child's entire day at the CHILD Center . We strongly desire that our staff work as a team. Rate of pay: $11.30/hour

Qualifications:

  • CDA certificate or Associate Degree in Early Childhood.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Pass a Background Study check.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Strong desire to work with children.
  • Follow directions and interact well with other staff and children.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Act as communications liaison between the Center and parents for the time covered in the CHILD Center .
  2. Ensure that assistant teachers are kept informed of any changes in the child's schedules.
  3. Reporting daily events, changes in schedule, changing times, food amounts, child's health, and sleeping habits to the aides so that continuity of care is maintained. (This is accomplished through maintaining “Teacher to Parent” forms.)
  4. Completion of Daily Report Sheet during the course of teacher's shift. This includes writing a thoughtful and positive note about the child's day.
  5. Follow teacher's plan which arranges an environment that best meets the individual child's developmental needs. This includes planning art and sensory activities along with providing a variety of toys and gross motor equipment. Toys and equipment should be rotated weekly and sanitized daily.
  6. Work with and supervise student assistant teachers. When inappropriate behavior by the student assistant teacher's may cause immediate harm, the behavior must be reported to the Director or Assistant Director immediately.
  7. Contribute equally in the housekeeping tasks for classroom assigned.
  8. Become a competent member of the Infant Care Team for time at the CHILD Center . This entails maintaining open communication between fellow team members, contributing equally in daily routine tasks, and an awareness of the overall needs of the program.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of children, parents, and fellow staff members.
  10. Dress appropriately in accordance with the Center's established dress code policy.
  11. Maintain a professional attitude while at the CHILD Center .
  12. Responsible for knowing the policies of the program in regards to:
  • Diapering
  • Licensing requirements
  • Communicable disease and exclusion of a sick children
  • First aid and medical emergency
  • Fire evacuation
  • Tornado and severe weather evacuation
  • Child abuse reporting
  • Discipline and child guidance
  • Termination and written warnings
