Location: Pontlevoy, France Program Length: Spring Semester ONLY Housing: students reside in The Abbey, sharing rooms in the facility with 1-2 other students; lunch provided M-F, kitchen available Language: English (classes taught in); French Coordinating University: University of Southern Mississippi Program Website: www.theabbey.usm.edu Estimated Cost: approximately $8,500 per semester plus airfare, $275 International Program Fee Financial Aid Available: yes Application Deadlines: Fall: June 15, Spring: December 15 Description: The University of Southern Mississippi runs this consortium program where American students from various institutions throughout the U.S. live and take classes in a 1000-year-old Abbey in Pontlevoy France, a small town southwest of Paris. Academics focus on a non-traditional interdisciplinary type curriculum of history, art history, literature, political science, geography and economics. General education requirements can be met for freshman or sophomore students. Advanced seminars can be used to meet upper class requirements. Program includes a week in Paris. Classes are taught in English by American and French professors. French language classes are available. The friendly, small, rural town of Pontlevoy, France is an hour and a half southwest of Paris. Past students have been involved with the culture and community through volunteering opportunities (communal mentorship), host families, and seeking opportunities to get to know people in the area. |
