Geography Scholarship Amount: $1000 or two at $500. Awarded to a full-time student who has been a declared geography major for at least one year. The scholarship is based on academic excellence. The recipient must have at least two semesters of full-time study left at UWRF. Criteria/ Conditions/ Comments:

• declared geography major for the academic year prior to receipt of scholarship
• must have completed at least 5 geography courses at time of application
• no "Incomplete" grades on student record
• full-time student
• must have 2 semesters of full-time study remaining at UWRF
• minimum 3.30 overall GPA 3.50 geography GPA student's minor is not a consideration for the award
• the scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the of the Dept. of Geography Scholarship Committee

Foundation

Scott Nelson Memorial Fund - Scott Nelson, from Bloomer, WI, was a Geography major in the 1970s. He received his degree in May 1976 and shortly after, he joined the Western Slope Fire Center to fight the many forest fires that plagued the western states that summer. With flames surrounding several them, several firefighters jumped into a lake to allow the flames to pass over them. But evidently there wasn't enough oxygen left for them to survive, and three died, including Scott. The Scott Nelson Fund was established to fund activities of the Student Geography Organization and the department that benefit our students. Contributions to this account may be used to help fund events, correspondence and activities for Geography students and alumni.
