The University of Wisconsin-River Falls is proud of its scholarship program, which has grown considerably in recent years. UW-River Falls scholarship recipients are selected in the winter and early spring prior to the academic year that they receive their scholarship awards.  The selection process is conducted by a university-wide or a college scholarship committee that reviews scholarship fund criteria and student applications.

To qualify for scholarships, students must be admitted to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Factors that may be considered when determining recipients include class ranking, ACT scores, high school and community activities, and financial need.

On the left side of this page, you will find scholarship descriptions for general UWRF Foundation scholarships as well as scholarships designated to a specific college within the university.please check the college of your major for sholarships you may be eligible for. Information regarding your class ranking, ACT scores and financial need do not need to be included in your application. By submitting your HS transcripts and completing a FAFSA, you eSIS record already contains this information.

You must meet the requirements for the scholarship in order to be eligible. Below are explanations of key terms used in scholarship criteria. These explanations are used to determine eligibility.

  1. If the scholarship requires a minimum ACT score (e.g. 25) then you must meet that minimum ACT score at the time of appplication.

  2. If the scholarship criteria requires financial need, you must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year in which the scholarship will be awarded. Your financial need will be determined based on your FAFSA by the Financial Aid Office. In general, you are considered to have need if your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from your FAFSA is less than the estimated Cost of Attendance (COA).
  1. If the application includes an essay section, then it is required to be complete for the application to be considered. If not, please answer the essay by explaining what specifically makes you qualified for the scholarship and why you feel deserving to recieve the scholarship.

  2. The biography section of the application is required for the application to be considered. This section offers you the opportunity to share information about yoursef with the scholarship donor, should you recieve the scholarship. This information will not be shared with the selection committee.

Cancellation policy:

The University reserves the right to revoke a scholarship if the recipient is found to not meet the published criteria under which the recipient was initially selected.

Disbursement Policy:

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of full-time, full year attendance for the succeeding academic year. Enrollment status (i.e., credits) will not affect the amount of the money received unless the student enrolls for less than six credits. Students who enroll for less than six credits are not eligible to receive a scholarship.

Scholarship payments are made, by the UW-River Falls Foundation, the fall and spring semester following the selection of recipients. Payments are direct credits to the students account in the Cashier's Office.

  • Awards of $500 or less, are credited for the full amount fall semester.

  • Awards of $501 and above, are divided equally between fall and spring semester.

If a student does not attend a portion of the school year, the money that would have been awarded will be held for the student until the end of the academic year. If the student enrolls before the end of the academic year, the money will be released; if not, the money will be returned to the scholarship account.

Scholarship endowments and annual scholarships are managed through the UW-River Falls Foundation. Some scholarships listed may not be awarded, for a variety of reasons. If you have questions, contact Logan Spindler in the UWRF Foundation Office at scholarships@uwrf.edu, or (715) 425-3505.
