Guidelines and Required Information
This information is for all UWRF continuing student scholarships EXCEPT those specifically named and awarded by CAFES. Please see their website for their unique application, deadline, and requirements. Who may apply? Currently enrolled UWRF students. When do you apply? The application process for the 2010-11 academic year will begin November 24, 2009 and continues through January 8, 2010. The deadline includes the submission of any requested supporting letters of recommendation as well as the on-line application. Where do you look for possible UWRF scholarships? CAS, CBE, and COEPS each have general scholarships and major-specific scholarships. In addition, there are university-wide scholarships that don’t require a specific major. There are also a few departments in CAS that handle their applications separately, but you’ll see that when you open their links. Use the links on the left side of the web page to find all the details. How do you apply? When you see a scholarship you think you deserve, click on the “Apply for this Scholarship” button right below the description, complete the on-line application, and submit. Of course, follow any additional instructions a specific scholarship may require. Where do you send additional documents that a scholarship requires as part of its application? Logan Spindler, Scholarship Coordinator Be sure to put your name, UWRF ID, and scholarship name on the document. What else should you know before you apply? Please, please, please read the items below before you apply. It could save you a lot of time and effort. 1. You must apply separately for each scholarship. 2. Be sure you meet the minimum requirements before applying. 3. If the scholarship states it is for a particular grade level, it means the grade level you will be during the 2010-11 academic year. A sophomore must have 30 earned credits, a junior must have 60 earned credits, and a senior must have 90 earned credits by the time fall semester, 2009, begins. Of course, if a scholarship description specifically states something to the contrary, then use that definition for that particular scholarship. 4. If the scholarship criteria requires financial need, you must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year in which the scholarship will be awarded. Your financial need will be determined based on your FAFSA by the Financial Aid Office. In general, you are considered to have need if your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from your FAFSA is less than the estimated Cost of Attendance (COA). 5. If the scholarship application has an essay field, you must complete it. Review the scholarship description to see if you need to answer a specific question. If not, then answer the essay by explaining how you qualify for the scholarship and why you deserve it. 6. If you are already receiving a RENEWABLE scholarship, you do NOT need to reapply for it. You will automatically be reconsidered. 7. Information regarding your grade level, GPA and major do not need to be included in your application. We will collect that information from eSIS.
