University of Wisconsin - River Falls Foundation Scholarships

Secondary Education

 

Ernest W. Brickner Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to a junior or senior student majoring in secondary education who has demonstrated an active interest in extra-curricular activities. If a recipient cannot be found, an elementary education major may be chosen. Preference will be given to a student who has an interest in Conservation. The student must be in good academic standing.

George and Marcella Field Endowment:
Awarded to a full time junior or senior academically strong strong student who is committed to teach in secondary education, and who has been active in extra curricular activities.

Dr. Lee E. Jensen Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to an undergraduate student currently in the secondary teacher education program at the UW-River Falls. Student must be admitted to the secondary education program. Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. Must demonstrate financial need. Must be a legal Wisconsin or Minnesota resident. Must demonstrate leadership ability. Must state any honors received and/or organizational memberships that support your commitment to education. Must have letter of support from two instructors referencing the following: 
Leadership ability; activities the student has participated in relating to the teaching of their major; examples of observations of student's teaching quality; success potential within the field of education; a statement of the experience the writer has had with students in a classroom or elsewhere.
Must submit an essay (two pages maximum) addressing:
What factor has been the most influential in your decision to pursue secondary education as a career choice? How do you envision using technology in your major area within the classroom setting? In future years, we will experience many challenges in education. Briefly discuss a few key challenges and how you intend to successfully deal with these challenges?

Tadeusz Pala Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to a junior enrolled in secondary education chemistry or broad field science (pursuing physical science certification) degree program with a cumulative GPA of 2.95.  Financial need should be considered.  During the year for which the award is made, the student has to be enrolled in TED 212 or TED 474.  If in any given year, the above criteria cannot be met the award should be made to an incoming freshman planning to major in chemistry with a composite ACT of 27 or higher.

Margaret and Edward Rock and Peggy and Donald Iverson Scholarship:
Awarded to a student with sophomore standing.  Based upon academic achievement, financial need, and promise as a future teacher, this scholarship is presented to a continuing student majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education.

Paula Soli Stenberg Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to a student who has been accepted into the Teacher Education Program, seeking licensure in secondary education, and majoring in either Biology or English. The scholarship will be awarded in alternate years to a Biology (odd years, ex. 2009-2010) or English (even years, ex. 2010-2011) major.
