Bob Samarotto Music Scholarship:
The single focus for the Bob Samarotto Annual Music Scholarship is New Music--for awards to freshmen candidates for New Music Ensemble work as well as awards to accomplished upper class members of the New Music Ensemble. The number of annual recipients may vary between one and four. The $1,250 in annual awards are to be given in two areas: the largest portion ($750-$1,000) is to be awarded to a music major who is a practicing member of the New Music Ensemble, and who excels in improvisational performance ability--first preference given to a woodwind player, other qualifications being equal; the second scholarship ($250-$500, depending on what amount is given at the upper class level) is to be awarded to an incoming freshman woodwind player who displays potential and commitment to perform with the New Music Ensemble for a year. All recipients must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Financial need is to be taken into consideration only as a determinant between two equal candidates. Since all awards are related to developing the New Music program, the Director of the New Music Ensemble should be responsible for recommending recipients and presenting their names for approval to the regular scholarship committee of the Music Department.
