Journalism
The Journalism Department offers the following scholarships for journalism majors based upon academic record, campus or professional media experience, dedication to the profession, and financial need. To be eligible for ALL journalism scholarships, fill out ONE application form . Return the signed form to the journalism office at 310 NH.

Earl V. Chapin Journalism Scholarship:
Awarded to a student majoring in Journalism. Student must be a sophomore, junior or senior, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need.
George P. Crist Jr. Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to an outstanding student majoring in Journalism.
Lucien Day and Clare Murphy Parlin Scholarship:
Awarded to a senior in journalism who intends to pursue a career in news reporting and has a demonstrated concern for the public welfare through extracurricular activities. Preference will be given to those with special interest in politics, environmental, and/or social justice issues.
Terry G. Fiedler Scholarship:
Awarded to a Journalism student who demonstrates a passion for good writing, promise as a writer and storyteller, a love of reading and a desire to continually learn and grow. Preferences given to a junior or senior Journalism Major (pursuing print, broadcast, or on-line journalism track) with an interest in business reporting a plus.
Denis P. Hickey Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to a junior majoring in Journalism who has satisfactorily completed 60 or more credits; is in the upper third of the class; shows evidence of leadership capabilities through active participation in school, church, or community; and be satisfactorily progressing toward a degree as determined by the advisor. The scholarship will be renewed for a second year if eligibility continues.
Hudson Star Observer Scholarship:
Awarded to a Journalism major.
Journalism Department Scholarship:
Awarded to current freshman who writes the most compelling essay on the role of journalism in a democratic society. Essay must be double-spaced between 400-500 words.
Helen Kuyper Evans Scholarship:
Awarded to a female member of the Student Voice staff.
Pat Petricka Memorial Scholarship Sponsored by River Falls Journal:
Awarded to a Journalism major.
Lola Prine Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to Journalism major. The student's GPA, specific grades in Journalism, involvement in media activities on campus, commitment to Journalism as a career and financial need should be taken into consideration.
Rasmussen Radio Internship Scholarship:
Awarded to a student interested in general assignment reporting for WPCA-FM, a non-profit radio station in Amery, Wisconsin that serves Polk County. The student selected should have completed a news writing course and be a self-starter, excelling at generating story ideas and meeting deadlines. Weekly hours and beginning and end dates for the internship will be determined using established internship guidelines within the Journalism Department.
Red Wing Republican Eagle Scholarship:
Awarded to a Journalism major.
M. Wayne and Marian Wolfe Journalism Scholarship:
Awarded to an outstanding student within the Journalism Department. There is no class requirements with respect to the scholarship recipient. It may go to a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior at the discretion of the Journalism Department.
