University of Wisconsin - River Falls Foundation Scholarships

Plant and Earth Science

 

CAFES majors only need to fill out ONE application form to be considered for all scholarships: CAFES Scholarship, UNLESS a specific application is listed with the scholarship.

The Anoka County Gem & Mineral Club Annual Scholarship:
Awarded to students who have attained sophomore, junior or senior status with at least two semesters of school remaining, majoring in Geology with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. During the academic year each student recipient must write a short one-page article for the ACG&MC newsletter or give a brief fifteen-minute presentation on some aspect of geology at an ACG&MC meeting.


BioDiagnostics Scholarship:

Awarded to one student with a Crop and Soil Science major with the Crop Science option. Student must be a sophomore at the time of the first award. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference should be given to academic excellence over financial need. If the selection committee does not find a qualified sophomore for the award, an incoming freshman with a minimum ACT of 24 may be selected. The scholarship is renewable for three additional years if the student meets the following criteria: Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, remain in the major and complete a minimum of 30 credits per year.

Thomas J. Carmichael Memorial Scholarship:

Mel H. Cohee Student Leader Conservation Scholarship :

Applicants must be members of the UW-RF Student Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society.  Before receiving the scholarship, the recipient must have membership in both the local and national Soil and Water Conservation Societies.  Applicants' field of study must be in one of the following agriculture or natural resources programs: Ag Education, Conservation, Land Use Planning, Crops/Soils, Ag Business Ag Engineering Technology, Environmental Science or Ag Studies.  Recipients will be selected based on their overall involvement and interest in natural conservation.  Student must be a citizen of the USA and enrolled in the CAFES.  Receipt of the scholarship in a previous year shall not affect an applicant's eligibility to be a recipient in subsequent years.


Edna and Rudy Cordua Scholarship:

Awarded to a junior or senior pursuing a major in Geology.


E.C.O. Environmental Stewardship:

Awarded to a student with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and a significant history of volunteer work in environmental stewardship. A statement of how the applicant plans to apply what they have learned in their field of study to environmental issues is also required.


Garden Center Symposium:

Awarded to a full-time junior or senior horticulture major with a minimum 3.0 GPA. The recipient must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given someone with an emphasis and career interest in Ornamental Horticulture.


Geology Alumni Scholarship:

Student must have attained junior status, enrolled in the Geology program, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.


The Timothy Huston – Kinnickinnic River Land Trust Scholarship:

Awarded to a student who has attained junior class standing (preferable senior), and be majoring in Environmental Science, Conservation, or Land Use Planning with priority consideration given to a senior with a Hydrogeology minor. In cooperation with an UW-RF/CAFES Environmental Science & Management faculty member, the student must propose and conduct a two credit or greater Independent Study, research, or service learning project, mutually beneficial to Kinnickinnic River Land Trust, the Kinnickinnic River, and the student's academic and professional development goals. Applicants should attach a brief description of any project idea(s) they have for meeting the spirit of the scholarship.


Wallace Henry Jerome Agriculture Annual Scholarship:

Awarded to one student with an Agricultural Studies, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Education, Agricultural Engineering Technology, Crop and Soil Science, or Animal Science major. To qualify for this scholarship, the student must complete the essay section of the application, briefly explaining his/her leadership positions and activities in high school, college and in the community, and how this involvement led to an agriculture major. Student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Student must be a first semester junior (60 credits completed) in the fall semester of the year in which the scholarship is provided. Must be a U.S. citizen. The scholarship will be renewed, for spring semester of the junior year and again for the senior year, if the recipient remains eligible.


Stella Marcuk Memorial Scholarship for Environmental Science & Management:

Awarded to a student who has completed one full year of study at UW-RF with a major in Conservation, Environmental Science, or Land Use Planning. The student chosen should have need for scholarship support, demonstrate strong vision and commitment to success in their chosen field, demonstrate exemplary values and ethics to his/her peers and faculty, and have a minimum GPA of 2.50 overall, and 3.0 in their major courses.


Moses Strong Memorial Scholarship:

Awarded to students majoring in Earth Science who have been accepted to geological field camp the following summer.


Pi Alpha Xi-Alpha Zeta Chapter Scholarship:

Awarded to a sophomore at time of application with a major in Horticulture, a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, and demonstrated activities related to horticulture: involvement or membership in clubs, volunteer or summer work experience, and/or interest in horticulture related career goals.


River Falls Garden Club Scholarship:

Awarded to a junior or senior majoring in horticulture from Pierce, St. Croix, Pepin, Polk or Dunn Counties and having a recommended minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0. Recipient is invited to speak to the club or provide the club with some horticulture related service.


Rothermel-Merck Scholarship:

Scholarships awarded to students majoring in Crops or Soils Science.


Wisconsin Fertilizer and Chemical Association Scholarship:

Awarded to a student in Plant and Earth Science Department with an interest in soil fertility or pest management.


Wisconsin Florist Foundation Scholarship:

Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior student in the horticulture major with cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. A lesser GPA will be considered if potential recipient will enter the floral industry after graduation. Student must have involvement in campus, community, civic or service organization and show leadership abilities. Must, at the time of select, have as their stated future goal a career as a florist, greenhouse grower, flower researcher, or some phase of floral industry.


Wisconsin Nursery Association Scholarship:

Awarded to a student with an interest in nursery or landscaping careers.


Wisconsin Regional Lily Society Scholarship:

Awarded to a junior or senior with a major in Horticulture. Preference is given to students with an interest in floriculture, breeding and genetics of horticultural plant materials and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.


Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association Scholarship :

Awarded to a junior or senior majoring in Agricultural Business, Agricultural Engineering Technology, Agricultural Studies, Biotechnology, Crops and Soils, Food Science and Technology, Horticulture or Marketing Communications. Student must be in good academic standing. Preference given to a student who has been personally involved or has immediate family members who are involved in the production and/or processing of cranberries as an agronomic crop. Please note in the biography section of your application if your family is involved in the production and/or processing of cranberries.
