Process My Stafford Loan

The Federal Stafford Loan Program provides low interest loans to students attending post-secondary schools. You may recieve a Federal Stafford Loan if you are a regular student enrolled in an eligible program at least half - time by filling out the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA. Within the Stafford loan process there are 2 steps that you will complete:

Step 1. Complete the Entrance Counseling Interview - All first time UWRF Stafford loan recipients are required to complete an entrance interview prior to receiving funds. To complete entrance counseling, select the link below.

Step 2. The next step in obtaining your Federal Stafford Loan, is to Complete Your Master Promissory Note . Select the link below to select a Lender and complete the Master Promissory Note.

Required Information:

Social Security Number (SSN)
Driver's license (if applicable)
Email address (to receive email confirmation)
Complete address and phone number
Two personal references including their name, complete address, and phone number
- First reference must be a parent
Department of Education PIN (to electronically sign MPN).
Lender – It is your right to choose any lender you wish to borrow your student loan from. A list of lenders will be provided through this process. This list is provided to assist you in choosing a lender. All the lenders on the list are able to process loans electronically through the guaranty agency and UW-River Falls. If you decide to choose a lender not on list, you will need to notify the Office of Financial Assistance of the lender name and product code for lender you choose. Please, note that if the lender is not setup for electronic process with the guaranty agency or UW-River Falls, the process to receive the funds could be delayed.

Federal Stafford Loan Processing

If you requesting additional loans complete the Loan Request Form online and submit it to the Office of Financial Assistance.

Note: If you choose a lender that is not on the list and is not found when searching using the six digit lender code, you need to complete the Loan Request Form and complete a paper MPN. The paper process could increase the amount of time to receive the proceeds of this loan. *** You will still be required to complete the Entrance Counseling step.
