Federal Perkins Loan Processing

What is a Federal Perkins Loan?

A Federal Perkins Loan is a low-interest (5 percent) loan for both undergraduate and graduate students with financial need. Your school is your lender. The loan is made with government funds, and your school contributes a share. You must repay this loan to your school.

Signing Promissory Notes for Loan Funds - New Borrowers Only

The University of Wisconsin - River Falls is extremely happy to announce that completion of all paperwork and the signing of promissory notes for Federal Perkins can be completed online. No longer do you, the student, have to wait for the mail and then return the forms to us. It is all performed online.

Here are the 2 steps to follow:

Step 1. Accept the Perkins loan via eSIS self-service.

**The following step can only be completed after 3 days from the date of accepting the Perkins loan.

Step 2. All first time UWRF Perkins loan recipients are required to complete an entrance interview prior to receiving funds. You will be prompted to complete the Entrance Interview as you complete the Master Promissory Note online:

  • Log on to ECSI website at http://www.ecsi.net/promj1
  • You must select UWRF as the school you are attending
  • Provide your Social Security Number, last name, and date of birth
  • Provide your PIN when requested on the Student Authentication Network page
*Note: Your FASFA PIN is required to complete this process. If you do not have a valid PIN, you must go to the Department of Educations PIN site at www.pin.ed.gov to obtain your number.
  • Complete the Entrance Loan Counseling online, when prompted.
  • Most pages require that you accept the terms by checking a box at the bottom of those pages.
  • You must provide complete reference information for yourself, next of kin and two additional references. Failure to complete all lines accurately will keep this loan from disbursing to your account.
  • PROMISSORY NOTE – Read completely. Electronically sign at the bottom of the promissory note page. The electronic signature includes a check off box plus your full legal name.

Your loan proceeds will not be disbursed until all electronic documents are filled out completely, accurately and approved by the Cashier's Office.. It is important that you complete this process as soon as possible. All tuition and fees are due by the due date regardless of the status of financial aid and this loan. Complete immediately .
