Processing Your Loans

 

 

Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loan Processing
If you are borrowing a Federal Stafford Loan (Unsubsidized and/or Subsidized) for the first time at UW-River Falls, you have three steps to complete online before your loan will be disbursed to the UW-River Falls Cashier’s Office.

Step 1: Accept Federal Stafford Loan

  1. From your eSIS home page (your Student Center), click on View Financial Aid.
  2. Choose the correct aid year.
  3. Click on Accept/Decline Awards. Click on the "Accept" box next to the loan if you want the full amount. To decrease the amount, click on the "Accept" box and enter your desired lesser amount.
  4. Click Submit when finished.

Step 2: Entrance Counseling
The goal of this required online tutorial is to make sure you understand your rights and responsibilities of borrowing a Stafford loan. Complete Stafford Loan Entrance Counseling.

Step 3: Sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN)
You will need the following to sign your MPN:

  • Social Security Number
  • Driver's License
  • Address and phone number for two references
  • PIN from the U.S. Department of Education
  • Choose a Lender: It is your right to choose any lender you wish to borrow your loan from. UW-River Falls does not endorse any one lender, but has provided a list of our most commonly used lenders in the link below. All lenders listed have demonstrated a commitment to providing service to our students and have electronic fund capabilities with UW-River Falls, which ensures smooth processing of your Stafford Loan. If you decide to choose a lender not on the list, you will need to notify the Financial Aid Office of the lender name and 6-digit code of the lender you choose. Note: If the lender is not setup for electronic process with UW-River Falls, the loan disbursements could be delayed. Sign Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN).

Federal Perkins Loan Processing
If you are borrowing a Federal Perkins Loan for the first time at UW-River Falls, you have two steps to complete online before your loan will be disbursed to the UW-River Falls Cashier’s Office.

Step 1: Accept Federal Perkins Loan

  1. From your eSIS home page (your Student Center), click on View Financial Aid.
  2. Choose the correct aid year.
  3. Click on Accept/Decline Awards. Click on the "Accept" box next to the loan if you want the full amount. To decrease the amount, click on the "Accept" box and enter your desired lesser amount.
  4. Click Submit when finished.

Step 2: Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN)
The goal of this required online tutorial is to make sure you understand your rights and responsiblities of borrowing a Perkins Loan. As you are completing the Entrance Counseling and MPN, you will need your Social Security number, PIN, and address and phone number for references. The electronic signature includes a check box plus your legal name. You must wait 3 business days after accepting the Perkins Loan to complete the promissory note.
