Campus Work Programs

FEDERAL WORK STUDY

All students who request and qualify for Federal Work Study will receive an allocation on their award letter. This allocation provides students an opportunity to seek work on campus and earn up to the allocated amount. This amount is not a guarantee of employment. Students are responsible for finding their own job. Lists of available jobs are located outside the Office of Financial Assistance, North Hall, on the campus cable TV station (Channel 10), and at http://www.uwrf.edu/ccs/vac_list/financial_aid.htm

If you want to work you MUST:

  1. Obtain a job on campus. If you need assistance in locating a job, you may contact the Office of Financial Assistance.
  2. Complete I-9 Verification with the hiring department. (See the I-9 Verification below.)
  3. Complete the appropriate Federal and State tax withholding forms, available from your supervisor or the Personnel Office. These forms must be returned to the Personnel Office.

Note: You must complete the steps above prior to the time you begin work. Failure to do so will result in not being paid for work performed.

STUDENT ASSISTANCE

The Student Assistance work program is available to students who are not eligible for Work Study. This program is not based on need and any student wishing to work can secure employment, provided that jobs are available through the various departments. Contact the department directly to secure employment. These jobs are also posted on the job boards around campus, on the campus cable TV station (Channel 10), and at http://www.uwrf.edu/ccs/vac_list/financial_aid.htm.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Some students working under the Federal Work Study program may be involved in “Community Service” jobs as defined by the National and Community Service Act of 1990. These jobs will provide services to the community in areas such as health care, childcare, literacy training, support services for students with disabilities, youth corps activities, social services, etc.

GRADUATE ASSISTANTS

Graduate Assistants positions are awarded to qualifying students who make application prior to the deadline date set by the Graduate Office. Contact the Graduate Office [258 Wyman Education Bldg., (715) 425-3843] for more information on applying for positions. Graduate Assistants who receive Work Study funding must follow steps 1-5 of the Work Study section.

I-9 VERIFICATION

The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires that anyone employed after November 7, 1986, must complete an I-9 Verification Form and present two forms of identification within three working days of employment. This regulation includes student workers. Current procedures require that after you secure employment you MUST present the acceptable forms of identification and employment eligibility to your hiring department.

Students must supply one document from EACH of the following lists. (Contact the Office of Financial Assistance for other acceptable documents.)

NOTE: If you have already completed the I-9 Verification Form on this campus in the previous year, it is not necessary to complete another.
