Verification
- Verification is the process of checking the accuracy of the information supplied by the student and his/her family.
- Application are selected for verification by:
- Federal processor based on edit criteria, which detects inconsistencies and/or mistakes
- Federal processor - random selection
- School - based on conflicting information
- Schools are required to verify all applications selected by the federal processor.
- Verification is a manual review of the file – this does delay the completion of the file.To facilitate the process, submit the required documents as soon as we notify you that your file has been selected.
- Required Verification Items:
- Household Size (do not include siblings 24 yrs of age or older)
- Number enrolled in post-secondary education at least 1/2 time (do not include parents)
- Adjusted Gross Income from federal tax return
- U.S. Income Tax Paid
- Untaxed Income and Benefits which include:
- Social Security Benefits
- Child Support
- UntaxedPayments to IRA's and KEOGH's
- Foreign Income Interest on Tax Free Bonds
- Untaxed Income (Worksheet “A” & "B" - FAFSA)
- Documents Required for Verification:
- Parent's Federal Tax Return**
- Student's Federal Tax Return**
- Verification Worksheet - provided by the school or you can print the form below:
- Dependent Student Verification Worksheet - Complete Online, Print, Sign & Submit
- Independent online - Complete Online, Print, Sign & Submit
**Please submit a signed copy of your tax return that we can keep**
Once the verification is completed, the school electronically sends the data to the federal processor. At this point, the student can be offered a financial aid package.
