Types of Aid - Grants

 

 

Federal Pell Grant

Who: Undergraduates
Eligibility: Based on your financial need determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and whether you attend full-time or part-time.
Award: Maximum award for the 2009-2010 year is $5,350. Award amounts are also based on your FAFSA and whether you attend full-time or part-time.

Federal Supplementary Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

Who: Undergraduates
Eligibility: Based on Pell Grant eligibility.
Award: Maximum award for the 2009-2010 year is $500.

Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)

Who: First and second academic year undergraduates
Eligibility: Based on Pell Grant eligibility and successful completion of a rigorous high school program, as determined by the stated education agency. Must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits). Must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 during first year to be eligibile for second year grant.
Award: Provides up to $750 for the first year and up to $1,300 for the second year.

Federal SMART Grant

Who: Third and fourth undergraduates
Eligibility: Based on Pell Grant eligibility and major in physical or life sciences, computer science, mathematics, technology, engineering, or in a foreign language determined critical to national security. Must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits). Must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 and be enrolled in at least one course each semester that meets the requirements of your SMART Grant-eligible major.
Award: Provides up to $4,000 for each of the third and fourth years.

Wisconsin Higher Education Grant (WHEG)

Who: Wisconsin resident undergraduates
Eligiblity: Based on your financial need determined by the FAFSA. Must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits). Can be received for a maximum of 10 semesters.
Award: Maximum award for the 2009-2010 year is $3,000. Award amounts are also based on your FAFSA.

Lawton Undergraduate Minority Retention Grant

Who: Wisconsin residents and Minnesota reciprocity undergraduates (except first-year students)
Eligibility: Based on African-American, Hispanic, Native American or Southeast Asian ethnicity. Must be at least sophomore status. Must have cumulative GPA of at least 2.25. Can be received for a maximum of 8 semesters.
Award: Maximum award for the 2009-2010 year is $3,000.

Talent Incentive Program Grant (TIP)

Who: Wisconsin resident undergraduates
Eligibility: First-year students are nominated by school financial aid offices or by counselors of the Wisconsin Educational Opportunity Programs (WEOP). To continue to receive the TIP Grant, you must be enrolled consecutive semesters at least half-time (6 credits) and continue to show financial need. Can be received for a maximum of 10 semesters.
Award: Maximum award for the 2009-2010 year is $1,800.

Advanced Opportunity Program Grant

Who: Minority graduate students or non-minority disadvantaged graduate students
Eligibility: Based on African American, Hispanic, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Southeast Asian ethnicity; or being an economically disadvantaged non-minority student. Must be admitted into a degree-seeking graduate program and must be enrolled in at least 2 credits per semester. Online application must be completed.
Award: Maximum award for 2008-2009 year is $4113.

American Indian Grants (Federal / State / Tribal)

Federal: Bureau of Indian Affairs Assistance
State: Wisconsin Indian Student Assistance
Tribal Grants: File application with tribe.
