Student Rights & Responsibilites

 

Students have the right to:

  1. Privacy of information regarding their financial assistance files. Information from a student's file will not be released to anyone without a signed release from the student, except to University staff and financial assistance donors or on a “need to know” basis.
  2. Receive financial assistance as long as they are eligible and as long as funds are available.
  3. Accept, reject, or seek adjustment to their financial assistance award without prejudice.
  4. Know how much assistance they will receive each semester and when it will be disbursed or applied to their account.
  5. Know the terms of any work program award offered.
  6. Know the interest rate, as well as the amount, method, and starting dates of repayment, for any loan offered to them.
  7. Access their financial aid file.
  8. Seek financial counseling.
  9. Appeal award decisions.


Students have the responsibility to:

  1. Provide accurate and factual information on all financial aid forms.
  2. Re-apply for financial assistance annually, meeting all published deadlines.
  3. Notify the Office of Financial Assistance of any change in name, marital status, financial status, or change in enrollment.
  4. Keep their address current with the Office of Financial Assistance and the Registrar's Office.
  5. Be aware of financial assistance deadlines.
  6. Watch for financial assistance announcements and bulletins in the student paper or posted on the Office of Financial Assistance bulletin board.
  7. Review student consumer information made available through the Office of Financial Assistance.
  8. Repay all loans or over payments in accordance with the terms of your truth-in-lending and promissory note and/or University policy.
  9. Notify the Office of Financial Assistance if they are in default on an education loan or owe financial aid repayments.
  10. Notify the Office of Financial Assistance if they change credit load or terminate their studies.
  11. Respond to all written inquiries and sign all required certifications in order to receive funding.
