Second Edition, July 1997
Welcome to the second edition of the UWRF Faculty and Academic Staff Development
Handbook. This document is intended to provide a central source of relevant
information about faculty and academic staff development programs on campus.
It contains guidelines and application forms for those programs funded
through on-campus processes and information on the structure and organization
of the UWRF Faculty and Academic Staff Development Board.
This document is the result of the ongoing efforts of the Faculty and
Academic Staff Development Board that was begun as part of the "Reach
for the Future" initiative. The primary objectives in establishing the
Board were to promote and support faculty and academic staff development,
to improve the organization and coordination of development efforts and
to provide a system for a fair and equitable allocation of available resources.
Many people deserve recognition for their efforts in these endeavors.
I would like to thank all of the members of the Board for the time and
energy that they devoted to professional development activities and for
the spirit of non-partisan collegiality they displayed throughout the
year. Special thanks go to Tracey Gladstone-Sovell for developing the
world wide web site. I would also like to thank the UWRF administration,
especially Provost and Vice Chancellor Robert Milam, for their continued
support of faculty and academic staff development. Linda Nowak and Mary
Ann Brubaker have frequently gone beyond the call of duty in providing
expert assistance to the Board.
Lastly I want to extend very
special thanks to Nan Jordahl, the person most responsible for the successful
establishment and operation of the Faculty and Academic Staff Development
Board. None of it could have been accomplished without Nan's leadership,
vision, energy and unfailing good humor. Her courage and commitment have
inspired us all.
