Faculty Grant Proposal Guidelines


The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Foundation Faculty Grants Committee seeks visionary and motivated faculty members requesting grant funding.

Scope of Funding:
UWRF Foundation Faculty Grants are supported by the charitable contributions of alumni and friends. The total funding available for the UWRF Foundation's Faculty Grants is $60,000. Minimum grant requests must be $5,000. Funding will be available after July 1, 2008, and must be expended by June 1, 2009.

Grants will support one or more of the following:
1. Research, scholarly and creative activity
2. Equipment needs
3. Enhanced learning environments

Grants will provide for a majority of these outcomes:
1. Improve the quality of education received by students
2. Improve teaching performance
3. Enhance research
4. Advance the stature of the university, college, department
5. Expand the faculty member's body of knowledge
6. Add to the faculty-student experience
7. Assist in developing community-university and public-private partnerships

Grants will not be considered for the following:
1. Conferences
2. Leave and sabbaticals
3. Projects needing sustained or perpetual funding from the Foundation

Guidelines for Grant Preparations:
1. Proposals will be accepted with an absolute submission deadline of 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
2. Proposals will be reviewed by a committee of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Foundation Board. Please write your proposal in language easily understood by people outside of your field.
3. In composing your grant, please include the following:

A. Begin with a half-page executive summary. Briefly explain why you are requesting this grant, what outcomes you hope to achieve, and how you will spend the funds if the grant is awarded.
B. Statement of need/problems to be addressed
C. Description of project goals, measurable objectives, and a summary of how
funding of the project will support the following outcomes (as applicable):
o Improve the quality of education received by students
o Improve teaching performance
o Enhance research
o Advance the stature of the university, college, department
o Expand the faculty member's body of knowledge
o Add to the faculty-student experience
o Assist in developing community-university and public-private partnerships
D. Timetable for implementation
E. Budget for requested funding
4. Proposals must include a Grant Proposal Cover Sheet available here .
5. Proposals should be submitted to Kimberly Gould Speckman, Director of Advancement Services in the UW-River Falls Foundation Office, 310 South Hall.

Grant Award Notification:
Notification of proposal status will occur in late May.

Grant Impact Report Requirements:
Grant recipients will be required to complete a report that summarizes the following:
1. Were the original goals and objectives of the grant met?
2. Was the full grant amount expended?
3. What impact has the grant project made within your department or college?

The Grant Impact Report is due in the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Foundation Office, 310 South Hall once the project has been completed and no later than by June 1, 2009.
