1987 - Bev Shepherd and Dan LundervilleTwo members of the Academic Computing Center have been chosen as the recipients of the Outstanding Service Award at UW-River Falls. Dan Lunderville and Beverly Shepherd, both senior information processing consultants, were cited by Chancellor Gary A. Thibodeau before the annual faculty meeting. The award, which is based on nominations from faculty and staff, includes a $250 honorarium from the University Foundation. In its second year, the honor is accorded to those Academic Staff or Faculty who primarily perform administrative functions. Registrar Melvin Germanson was presented the first award in 1986. Commenting on the selection, Thibodeau noted, "It was interesting to see the many number of times their names appeared together as a support team for assistance to the faculty. "The nominations pointed out that they complement each other as they provide support services. They have provided exceptionally high quality services to the faculty and students in academic computing support. "They translate a complex technology into a very useable service. They have humanized the technology so that it is not intimidating" Shepherd joined the Academic Computing Center in 1975. She holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London, and is an Associate of the Royal College of Science. She taught mathematics in London and Malvern, England, and wrote math textbooks for the Greater Cleveland Educational Research Council in Ohio. Lunderville joined the university in 1976. He is a graduate of Eau Clare Memorial High School and served in the Army from 1970-1973. He received a bachelor of science dgree from UW-River Falls in 1976.
