Double Minor in Ethnic Studies And Women's Studies
It is possible for Arts and Sciences majors to double minor in Women's Studies and Ethnic Studies with minimal additional credits. A glance at Requirements for Ethnic Studies and Women's Studies minors reveals that elective courses correspond to (and can be counted in) both minors. Students also save credits because courses in both minors can be applied to the Arts and Sciences Liberal Arts requirement and the University Diversity requirement. To complete the double minor with the fewest possible credits students must select:
Required Courses (6 cr. hrs):
Ethnic Studies 200
Women's Studies 200
Recommended Courses (6 cr. hrs)***
Choose 2 of the following:
Women's Studies 235
Women's Studies 443
Economics 312
Elective Courses (23 cr.hrs)
Choose :
9 cr. hrs (minimum) from Ethnic Studies Specific Ethnic Groups electives
3 cr. hrs Directed Electives
11 cr, hrs (minimum) from Women's Studies Elective courses
Total (35 cr.hrs)
Because of double counting, students who choose the recommended courses (and select appropriate courses to satisfy the Arts and Sciences Liberal Arts requirement) will complete the two minors for, effectively, 25-26 credit hours.
***Note: If students choose not to take recommended courses, they must take 1 Women's Studies elective and 1 Ethnic Studies-Ethnic Related course for each recommended course not taken. This will increase the total hours required for the double minor.
