EDITORIAL POLICIES
All submissions must conform with academic
policies of UWRF and the UW System. Submissions may be subject to additional
review by the Endeavor editorial board or its designees. Decisions by
the Endeavor editorial board will be final.
STYLE GUIDELINES
For aesthetic reasons a common format is preferred. All
submissions must be suitable for conversion to web-based documents. All
text-based submissions should be prepared in 12 pt. Times font, double
spaced with 0.75 in. margins
using Microsoft Word and submitted electronically.
I. Research
Articles should include:
A. Title in 18 pt. font.
B. Name(s) of author(s).
C. Optional) Sponsor's name, identified as sponsor, and
his/her department.
D. Abstract - A summary of the article briefly stating the objectives,
principal results and the conclusions. The beginning of this
section should be identified with the bold heading: Abstract.
E. Introduction - A review of relevant background information.
The beginning of this section should be identified with the bold
heading: Introduction.
F. Statement of the Problem - The beginning of this section
should be identified with the bold heading: Statement of the Problem.
G. Discussion of Results and Conclusions - The beginning of
this section should be identified with the bold heading: Discussion.
H. Experimental Details, Materials and Methods (If relevant.)
- The beginning of this section should be identified with the bold
heading: Methods.
I. References - The beginning of this section should be
identified with the bold heading: References. References to other
published works should appear in the text as superscipt numbers in
10 pt. font and should ascend
numerically through the text. The referenced works are then
listed in numerical order in the References section at the end of
the manuscript
using
the following format:
- Last Name, First Initial, M.I., other authors
similarly
- "Title of Article" set off by quotation marks
- Name of the Journal
in italics, standard abbreviations acceptable
- The year of publication
in bold
- Volume number underlined (issue number) in parentheses
- Beginning
page - ending page ended with a period.
- Example: Bolton,
D.J., Miller, A.B. and Duncan, S.S., "A
Ligand-Based Approach to the Androgen Receptor", J. Med. Chem.,
2003, 115(4), 2144-2149.
J. Figures, tables, schemes and other
graphics, if present, should be labeled with a title, capitalized,
below the graphic.
II. Artistic
Expression and Performance - In general, there are no restrictions
on style. However, where doing so will not interfere with the
artistic nature of the work, formatting similar to other works in Endeavor
should be
followed.
III. Communications - Style should be similar to a research
article in organization, however briefer, and bold headings may be
omitted.
IV. Creative Writings - There are no restrictions on
style, however, where doing so will not interfere with the artistic
nature of the work,
formatting
similar to other works in Endeavor should be followed.
V. Poster
Abstracts - The abstracts of posters that were presented at public
symposia may be reproduced and presented here. Formatting should
be similar to that described for parts A - D of a research article,
however, between parts C and D a statement should be inserted identifying
the symposium
at which the described poster was first presented. For example: “This
poster was presented at the 18th National Undergraduate Conference
on Undergraduate Research, Indianapolis, Indiana, April 22-24, 2004.”
VI.
Review Articles - Formatting should be generally similar to a research
article. Some sections may be modified or omitted in order to
accommodate the nature of the review.
