SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM

ASSESSING SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY STUDENT PROGRESS: THE PROGRAM ASSESSMENT SYSTEM, FORMS, AND TIMELINE

The school psychology training program is committed to providing students with progress feedback related to state and national training domains (NASP and Wisconsin DPI). In order to accurately measure student knowledge and competency development, data are collected through multiple methods at multiple points in the training program. Student progress data are summarized through faculty collaboration, and forwarded to students in a letter from the program director each spring. Students must then create developmental goals for the following year, based on the data-based feedback provided. Students meet with their advisors each semester to monitor progress on personal goals, adjusting them as needed. Additionally, the training program will utilize the data to make program modifications, as needed.

The following system of student assessment procedures was developed to ensure that student knowledge and professional skills are being assessed on all NASP and Wisconsin DPI training domains, from the time of application to post-graduation. Student progress data will be gathered annually (end of spring semester) for first and second year students, and every semester for third and fourth year students. Data collection requirements and reminders will be incorporated into various courses throughout the program. Click on any of these candidate assessment tools to view the actual rubric. The specific Policies and Procedures Handbook Appendix is noted too, as another reference to the rubric.

Students will be assessed through the collection of data from multiple sources, including ratings completed by a faculty advisor, the entire school psychology program faculty, a field or university supervisor, or through self-ratings. Collected data will be forwarded to the program director and/or the academic program assistant for data entry. While no assessment instrument or system is without fault, this particular multi-modal/multiple source system, where data are collected across time increases the reliability of the assessment system as a whole. Students will receive an annual written summary of progress from the program director.

Students will be assessed with the above noted instruments on the following schedule:
