Habitat For Humanity International is a nonprofit, nondenominational, volunteer housing organization. Our goal is to eliminate poverty housing by providing adequate, affordable housing for those in need.

Founded in 1995, the UWRF chapter of Habitat For Humanity is very active both on campus and in the community. We are focused on three elements: Building, Fundraising, and Educating.

There are always local building opportunities and no experience is necessary! Last year, with help from campus and community, our chapter sponsored and built the first Habitat home in River Falls. In spring 2004, another twin home will break ground within walking distance of campus! Imagine saying you helped build a home for someone in need!

Fundraising is essential to Habitat and always a lot of fun! To fund the Habitat home built last year, our chapter worked hard to raise $30,000! Fundraising opportunities include bake sales, Art For Humanity, raking leaves, Xcel Center concessions, car washes, and the annual Habistravaganza benefit at River Falls Golf Club.

Educating others is important. Most people don’t know that Habitat homeowners are required to put in hundreds of “sweat equity” hours and pay on a no-interest mortgage. Habitat is hand-up, not a hand-out!

Joining Habitat For Humanity is a great way to meet new people! Socials have included bowling, swimming, movies, and our semi-annual festivities, Habidazzle (winter) and Habifest (spring)! We also are active in Homecoming events, Winter Carnival, Unity In The Community, and Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

Collegiate Challenge trips are very popular among members! They involve building opportunities all over the country. Recent destinations include Florida, Santa Fe, Georgia, and NYC. The trips are very affordable and have proven to be unforgettable experiences. Active club participation helps pay for these trips.

Have fun! Meet new people! Make a difference!
