Research Interests

Sharyl is currently pursuing her PhD in Rehabilitation Science at the University of
Minnesota. Her research interest involves neuroplasticity in children as it relates to
regaining motor skills, particularly swallowing after neurological insult or lesion.
Sharyl’s clinical experience includes working as a speech-language pathologist at
Children’s Hospitals and Clinics in St. Paul, MN for 8 years and continues to provide
casual coverage.

Sharyl initiated a partnership between the University of Wisconsin- River Falls and the
River Falls Area Hospital to provide videofluoroscopic swallow studies to the pediatric
population within the surrounding communities.  Find out more about the pediatric swallow study program.

Activities

Sharyl currently is a member of the Curriculum Committee and the Building Space and
Usage Committee on campus.

Sharyl is also preparing a manuscript for publication entitled: Motor and Cognitive
Outcomes in Children after Functional Hemispherectomy.
