Family Fun Day
Chiefs Experience

Sponsored by Viking Coca Cola of River Falls
Saturday, Aug. 8
On Saturday, Aug. 8, join the Kansas City Chiefs and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls at the Ramer Field Athletic Complex for the 19th annual Family Fun Day sponsored by Viking Coca Cola of River Falls.

The Chiefs will hold an intra-squad scrimmage as part of the practice that starts at 2 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and children under 18 are admitted free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

This year's event will take place during the day for the first time ever. Family Fun Day includes hours of entertainment. The gates will officially open at 11 a.m., with ticket sales and the facilities food and beverage stand opening as well. The skydivers, sponsored by Indianhead Sport Parachute Club, will descend at 12:20 p.m. Remarks from UWRF Chancellor Dean Van Galen and a representative from the Chiefs will be made around 12:45 p.m. Mary Halada, former Camp Coordinator who is now in charge of Corporate Sponsorships, anticipates that the Chiefs new Head Coach Todd Haley will be introduced to the fans. Fans will be able to walk onto the track at 1:15 p.m. Players and coaches will be on the field to sign autographs from 1:30 p.m. until 1:50 p.m. Practice will be from 2-4 p.m. Afterwards, there will be a Punt, Pass and Kick trophy presentation featuring Haley that will wrap up the day.

The Chiefs Experience will be available from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. This event is a fan favorite and will include fun “game like experiences” prior to the afternoon practice. Steve Stocker, Director of University Recreation & Sport Facilities at UWRF said, “children will be able to participate in four stations testing their skills in each of the following disciplines: chip shot kicking, precision passing, soft hands catching and an obstacle course.” The Chiefs Experience is free for adults and children with paid admission to Family Fun Day.

Punt, Pass & Kick Has 88 Participants

The annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition, sponsored by Kwik Trip Stores, was held at noon on Saturday in between the Chiefs morning and afternoon practices. Partly sunny skies overlooked the event, with a temperature about 70 and a wind from the northwest.

Eighty-eight competitors age 8-13 took the field with their eyes set on taking home a trophy. Girls had two categories, ages 8-10 and ages 11-13, while the boys had a category for each year 8-13.

Photos of the event can be seen here.

The event was a great success, and each participant received a ribbon for their efforts. Chiefs Assistant General Manager Joel Collier talked to the participants after the competition and handed out trophies to the winners. "This is a great opportunity for young people to be able to compete in these types of events," Collier said. "When I was young and my Dad was an NFL coach, I was not allowed to participate in competitions such as this one, and I wish that I would have had the chance to demonstrate my football skills. Thank you for taking advantage of your opportunity to compete and have fun today!" The top three finishers from each category had a photo taken with Collier, KC Wolf and Freddy Falcon.

A special thanks goes to all of the volunteers who helped at the event, especially the students from the Greek organizations at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Three men from Theta Chi, two men from Alpha Gamma Rho and one woman from Sigma Sigma Sigma offered their time to help at the event. Another thank you is owed to the River Falls Parks and Recreation department that supplied the footballs and tees that were used during the competition.
