Tuesday, August 11: Wisconsin Governor Doyle Greets, Welcomes Chiefs
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle made a quick stop at UW-River Falls on Tuesday to welcome and greet the Kansas City Chiefs who are holding their 19th Summer Training Camp this year.
Doyle met with UWRF Chancellor Dean Van Galen and Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli.
Upon arrival and waiting for the governor to land in New Richmond, Wis., and travel to UWRF were former Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance/former camp coordinator Mary Halada, Special Assistant to the Chancellor Blake Fry, River Falls City Administration Scott Simpson and River Falls Mayor Don Richards. Representatives of the training camp’s Corporate Sponsors that were also present to greet the governor were Baldwin Telecom and the First National Bank.
Wearing a red polo and khaki pants, Doyle arrived at 12:02 p.m. and was greeted by Bryce Luchterhand, the director of Doyle’s Northern Office. Doyle first met with Van Galen. He then met with the corporate sponsors representatives and Chiefs Associate Director of Public Relations, Pete Moris. Moris is a native of Mt. Hope, Wis.
While inside Riverside Commons, Doyle not only spoke with Pioli, but he also met with Chiefs Head Coach Todd Haley. Doyle later mentioned that they talked about the UW-River Falls campus, how nice all the facilities are and how sincere and genuine the people are. He also stated, “We joked around a little about football…I told him I want a repeat of Super Bowl I, the Packers versus the Chiefs, same outcome and everything.” The Packers won the first Super Bowl, 35-10.
Unfortunately, Doyle was just able to visit for a short period today and was unable to attend practice due to other obligations.
