Chemistry Scholarships
Jon and Metta Belisle Chemistry Scholarship: 1 awarded per year
Awarded to a student who has graduated from a Wisconsin High School,
and who is pursuing a major in Chemistry. The student must show strong
performance academically and demonstrate a financial need.
Biotechnology Annual Scholarship
The scholarship(s) are to be awarded to students who have attained junior
or senior status who are majoring in Biotechnology with minimum cumulative
GPA of 3.2. Applicants must be enrolled in a research project in Biology,
Chemistry, Plant & Earth Science or Animal & Food Science or
have completed an undergraduate research project in Biotechnology or
are participating/completed an internship in Biotechnology. Consideration
given for demonstrated financial need.
Carmen Evenson Scholarship: 1 awarded per year
The scholarships are to be awarded with preference given to students
majoring in 1) Mathematics, 2) Physics and 3) Chemistry who have attained
junior or senior status with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their major field
of study.
Ina & John Hill Chemistry Research Grant: 1 awarded per
year
Awarded to a chemistry major of at least sophomore status with high
academic standing and an interest in conducting research in chemistry.
The recipient is expected to participate in a research project in chemistry
under the direction of a member of the chemistry faculty during the
year for which the award is made. The awardee will be chosen by the
chair of the chemistry department in consultation with the faculty who
teach the chemistry majors' organic chemistry laboratory.
Arnold and Mary Nord Memorial Scholarship: 1 awarded per year
Based on scholarship, financial need, and potential for contributions
in life, this scholarship is awarded on a rotating basis to a student
who will be a junior or senior with a major in one or more of the following
disciplines: Biology (01-02), Chemistry (02-03), Economics (03-04),
and Physics (00- 01). While the selection shall generally be according
to the major in the year indicated, the donor reserves the right to
select from all applications in any given year. Therefore, all majors
may apply for the scholarship in any given year when the applicant meets
all other criteria.
Lawrence W. Scott Memorial Scholarship: 2 awarded per year
This scholarship is awarded in memory of a long-time chemistry faculty
member. Awarded to a sophomore (during the year of the award) majoring
in chemistry who has demonstrated a high degree of excellence in the
field of chemistry through academic performance and participation in
extracurricular activities associated with chemistry.
Ted & Georgia Setterquist Scholarship: 1 awarded per year
Awarded to a Chemistry major who has completed at least 60 credits with
a minimum GPA of 3.2 and demonstrates potential for admission to graduate
school.
Dr. Henry Tranmal Scholarship: 1 awarded per year
Awarded to a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student pursuing
a degree in Chemistry who plans to continue at UW-RF. Also awarded in
Biology and Physics.
In addition there are many scholarships for students in pre-professional
programs related to chemistry.
Gerald C. Belisle Memorial Scholarship: 2 awarded per year
Awarded to a student who has graduated from a Wisconsin High School,
and who is pursuing course work in the pre-veterinary medicine curriculum
and who has plans to enter the field of veterinary medicine. The student
must show strong performance academically and demonstrate a financial
need.
Jane P. Coburn Pre-Veterinary Scholarship: 3 awarded per year
Granted to a sophomore, junior, or senior with an interest in animals
and is majoring in Pre-Veterinary Medicine.
Freeman Drug Scholarship: 1 awarded per year
Awarded to a high-ranking freshman in the Pre-Pharmacy or Science curriculum.
James Ellison Memorial Scholarship: 1 awarded per year
Awarded to a sophomore with a Pre-Medicine major.
Dr. B. H. (Benny) Kettelkamp Scholarship: 1 awarded per year
Presented to a student who has completed 90 credits toward the Pre-Medicine
curriculum as established by the university, with a minimum overall
GPA of 3.5, and has demonstrated potential for admission to medical
school.
Dr. Thomas G. Kliszcz Scholarship: 1 awarded per year
Awarded to a Pre-Dental or Pre-Pharmacy major who has earned at least
60 credits and plans to continue at UW-RF.
Dr. Clifford A. Olson Memorial Scholarship: 1 awarded per year
Awarded to a junior or senior Pre-Medical student with a minimum GPA
of 3.5. Preference will be given to a graduate of a high school in Pierce
or St. Croix counties in Wisconsin.
Timothy Regan Memorial Scholarship: Awards vary
Awarded to sophomores, juniors, or seniors in the pre-veterinary medicine
program. Preference will be given to Chemistry and Biology majors. Financial
need will also be considered.
River Falls Medical Scholarship: 1 awarded per year
Awarded to a student majoring in Pre-Medicine who plans to continue
at UW-RF. A student may only receive this award one time.
