The department laser laboratory was funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) through their ILI (Instrumentation and Laboratory Improvement) program. Our equipment consists of a nitrogen-laser pumped tunable dye laser, a laser Raman system, and associated equipment for disperson and detection of light at the single photon level. We use this equipment in our junior and senior level laboratories to study rapid chemical reactions (occurring in less than a millionth of a second) and the structure of materials.
