The University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) Chemistry Department is offering
Organic Chemistry I and II again this summer. This is an intensive course that
covers a year of organic chemistry in ten weeks, through 18 hours per week in
the classroom: 9 hours of lecture and 9 hours of laboratory.
Organic Chemistry taken at UW-River Falls will transfer to many universities. For equivalencies in the University of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Technical College Systems see the Transfer Information System (TIS) web site.
It is advisable to register early.

The course is a continuation of Chemistry 231. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy as a method for structure elucidation will be introduced. The typical reactions of alcohols, amines, aldehydes, ketones, aromatic compounds and carboxylic acids and their derivatives will be studied. A brief introduction to carbohydrates and proteins will be presented. Prerequisite: A grade of "C" or better in CHEM 231.
Emphasis is on the preparation and properties of organic compounds. Laboratory notebook and safety goggles required. Pre- or corequisite: CHEM 231.
