Institutional InformationUW-River Falls is one of 11 comprehensive universities in the University of Wisconsin System, which also includes two doctoral institutions, thirteen two-year colleges, and a statewide Extension program. Over 6400 students attend UW-River Falls as undergraduates and graduates. UW-River Falls currently offers over 100 majors and minors and a number of pre-professional and graduate programs. Part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan area, UW-River Falls is located in a dynamically growing rural-urban setting with easy accessibility to both city centers and their year-around arts, cultural, professional sports, and recreational events. The 720-acre campus, which includes two campus farms, provides a congenial academic atmosphere. The University has enjoyed steady growth in enrollment, faculty, and physical facilities. A new University Center opened during the 2006-07 academic year. This building illustrates our long term commitment to sustainability and a totally green campus by 2012. Classroom and residential facilities have been added and course offerings and programs of study expanded in response to technological developments, new fields of study and career opportunities. Throughout its history, UW-River falls has emphasized personalized education through a strong commitment to teaching and learning. The University of Wisconsin System has a growth agenda plan called Advantage Wisconsin (add hyperlink) in order to provide more baccalaureate degrees for Wisconsin residents. UW System also encourages individual campuses to develop and engage in strategic planning to address their particular needs. Vision and MissionThe University of Wisconsin Board of Regents has established broad definitions of mission for the University of Wisconsin System and its comprehensive institutions. A summary of that more detailed mission is to help students learn so that they are successful as productive, creative, ethical, engaged citizens and leaders with an informed global perspective. Consistent with its mission, UW-River Falls has its own campus vision:
Shared GovernanceThe concept of shared governance is a long tradition at UW-River Falls and within the University of Wisconsin System. As stipulated by Wisconsin statutes, three major governance groups participate in University decision-making: Faculty Senate, Academic Staff Council, and Student Senate.
