Recruited, hired, trained, and supervised a group of Career Paraprofessionals who work with clients, provide workshops, develop marketing materials and assist with office functions. Also participated in numerous events and planning committees throughout campus.

Counseling Skills

  • Counseled individuals and groups regarding all aspects of career planning issues: choosing an academic major, career and graduate school research, and job search and interview preparation.
  • Taught students basic HTML and technical skills for web portfolio development and electronic job searching success. Utilized Microsoft FrontPage, Adobe Photoshop, Fireworks, and a scanner.
  • Developed numerous handouts that assisted students with career development, including 35+ five-page handouts on skills, resources, and careers that relate to UWRF’s academic majors.
  • Assisted students with the development of conflict resolution skills, time management skills, work/life balance, assertiveness, and accountability by working with them one-on-one and role modeling.
  • Administered and interpreted career assessments, such as the MBTI, SII, COPES, COPS, CISS, and "What Color is Your Personality."

Leadership Skills

  • Trained and successfully supervised 7-10 Career Paraprofessionals, which included designing and leading week-long summer training sessions, creating projects and activities that promote skill development, and ensuring a positive and efficient work environment through support and structure.
  • Supervised a team of staff members who worked for nine months to create the College Experience Organizer- a binder that helps with the career planning process, promotes skill development and work/life balance, provides pockets for portfolio materials, and supplies campus information.
  • Created and organized four new outreach programs to increase students’ awareness of services, which includes reserving facilities, staffing the events, and promoting and marketing the programs.
  • Collaborated with a team to plan and organize nine workshops for the Dean of Students; educating staff about various student development issues.
  • Recruited diversity speakers, designed marketing materials, and arranged catering for a regional conference. Planned and organized the conference with a team of staff and faculty.

Public Speaking Skills

  • Implemented group work and activities into presentations, which allowed students to practice what they have learned and helped them remain focused and involved in the workshops.
  • Developed and led a diversity presentation for faculty and staff, which resulted in requests for seven additional training sessions for faculty and staff departments, students, and community organizations.
  • Enhanced public speaking skills by delivering over 300 presentations at national conferences, Faculty Development Day, Career Services’ workshops, and in classroom settings (see the presentations section of this web portfolio)

  • Increased the number of diversity students receiving career counseling services tenfold through active programming and targeted recruiting efforts.
  • Successfully wrote five diversity grants, creating $12,000 for conferences and diversity training materials that benefited UWRF and the surrounding community.
