Agriculture Teacher

I created this project for a lab in my Educational Psychology class.  The purpose of the lab was to create an assessment of student progress in a form other than a test.  I chose to have students write a paper about something that happened in history and describe its effects on agriculture.  This project relates to two of Wisconsin's Model Academic Standards for Agricultural Education.  By doing this project students will learn how agriculture was influenced by an event and they will communicate their ideas in written form.  One of the comments made by my professor was that more points were assigned to grammar than to content.  This is something that I will have to change before I use this assignment in a classroom.  I think students can be intrinsically motivated by this project because they can choose an event or issue that interests them.

Research a significant event in history and explain how it affected farmers and farming.  Identify if the effects were positive or negative or both.  Examples: The Great Depression, World War I, inventions and innovations, etc.  Write a four page double spaced typed paper about the event and its effects.  Use a variety of sources such as books, newspapers from the time, interviews, etc.  This project will be worth 20 points.

This project relates to the following Wisconsin's Model Academic Standards for Agricultural Education:

A.12.1 Identify how political policies and issues shape and influence food and fiber systems.

Students will pick an issue or event from the past that has somehow influence agriculture today.

B.12.2 Select and communicate information in an appropriate format; e.g., oral, written, graphic, pictorial, multimedia.

Students communicate about their topic in written form.

The following guidelines will be used to grade the reports.
