Summary
The Master of Management Program at UW-River Falls is an interdisciplinary
program, rooted in business administration as well as the social and behavioral
sciences. Key elements of the program are:
- Generalist perspective. The program, an alternative
to traditional MBA and MPA programs, prepares professionals without
prior academic work in business-related fields to become effective managers.
- Real world practicality. The program content revolves
around needed managerial competencies identified by firms and organizations
responding to our inquiries.
- Flexibility. Both degree and non-degree seeking
students can tailor the program to meet their professional needs. Managerial
and leadership development for private, public, and non-profit sector
employees will be addressed.
- Convenience. With an emphasis on flexible scheduling,
distance education, and asynchronous learning, the program provides
an ideal vehicle to meet the time demands of working professionals.

Competencies
Students completing the Master of Management degree will possess skills
that will make them better managers. The specific competencies upon which
the program is based are:
Master of Management Competencies
- Students will be able to apply management, marketing, finance, and
communication principles in the organization's decision making process.
- Students will be able to apply appropriate research and statistical
procedures in the organization's decision making process.
- Students will be able to apply effective human resource management
and leadership principles in the organization's decision making process.
- Students will be able to apply an understanding of ethical and legal
frameworks in organization's decision making process.
Each course within the Master of Management program has a specific set
of objectives that contribute to the management competencies. In addition
the coursework provides coverage of the AACSB perspectives: ethical and
global issues; the influence of political, social, legal and regulatory,
environmental and technological issues; the impact of demographic diversity
on organization.
The Curriculum
The Master of Management Program at UW-River Falls developed its curriculum
around 4 core competencies associated with effective managers. These competencies
- shared across the private, public, and non-profit sectors - were identified
as essential by professional organizations in business, public administration,
educational leadership, and non-profit management.
To earn the master's degree at UW-River Falls, you will need to complete
10 required courses plus electives, including a Master of Management Practicum,
for a total of 30 graduate-level credits. Required courses include:

- Oral Communication for Effective Organizations

Course credit may be granted by demonstrating proficiency in the objectives
