Assurance of Learning

Student learning is central to the mission of the College of Business and Economics [CBE].  Reflective of the college’s learning environment, is the expectation that graduates will be able to:

  • Apply the knowledge gained from their general business, economics, computer science, and statistics courses.

  • Demonstrate their awareness of ethical, global, political, social, legal, regulatory, environmental, technological and diversity issues.

  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.

  • Demonstrate an ability to work in teams, acquire information, and make decisions.

Each program within the College of Business and Economics develops additional learning objectives that reflect the knowledge and application skill expectations of their discipline.  

To understand if graduates have the knowledge, values, and professional behavior expected of graduates, the College has adopted an Assurance of Learning [AoL] Process designed to:

  • Focus on the program and college level of performance.

  • Establish college and programmatic learning outcome that are assess on a regular base.

  • Produce an Assurance of Learning Plan and annually AoL Reports.

  • Evaluate college and program learning outcomes through course embedded assessment.

  • Refine the curriculum, strategic initiatives, and faculty development.

  • Enhance student learning.

  • Be developmental and assist in the continuous improvement of the assurance of learning process.

For the AoL process to be effective, the College believes that is must be owned by the faculty, provide value to the College, be flexible, and reflect the business and accrediting communities’ perspectives.  The Colleges’ Assurance of Learning process is consistent with standards established by the AACSB and Higher Learning Commission.
