Application Form

Undergraduate Research, Scholarly and Creative Activities

Due to the generous contributions of alumni and friends of the College of Arts and Sciences, the University Foundation has created the CAS Fund for Excellence.  The fund is intended to support student participation with faculty in educational opportunities that go beyond the classroom.

Invitation for Applications:  The College of Arts and Sciences is inviting applications from undergraduate students for specific funds that will support their research, scholarly or creative activities.  The project is limited to College of Arts and Sciences majors, including secondary education majors, who are working with faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences. This grant is intended to cover supplies, project expenses, research travel, conference participation, etc.  Travel as part of a class or organized tour and travel for internships will NOT be funded.  Local travel will normally not be covered unless a special case can be made.  Funds can NOT be used for any salaries or for food or drink. We will not provide funding for promotion of public events in conjunction with the research.  Students working together on a single project are expected to submit a proposal as a team.  Any equipment purchased by the grant will remain the property of the department.  Projects can be funded for a maximum of $500.

Application information:  The proposal should be written clearly in a style that can be understood by a general audience of people from various disciplines.  The proposal must be signed by the advisor, project sponsor or department chair of the student’s major.  In a maximum of two pages, indicate the following:

  1. Name of proposer(s).  Indicate the name and contact information for the student proposing the project (please include the UWRF email address and indicate the major and number of credits completed to date by the student. If students apply as a group, this information must be provided for each student member.
  2. Project description. What are you planning to do?  (Include a timeline.) Why is this research or project important?
  3. Budget. What is the requested budget?  (Please be specific.) If you are requesting travel to a conference, please indicate if you are presenting a poster or participating in a panel. We will also need a specific breakdown for travel to separately indicate registration, lodging and mileage or ticket costs. You must indicate if you are also applying elsewhere for funds.

Please contact Mary Foster, Dean’s Assistant, 136 KFA, if you have any questions. Phone: 425-3777 or email: mary.foster@uwrf.edu
