1. Community Classroom Topics: Ancient Egypt
On Tuesday, March 6, Dr. Steven Derfler, UWRF art department, will present “New Discoveries in the Valley of Kings.”

Incredible archaeological discoveries have been made in Egypt over the past several decades. But not since the 1922 excavation of the tomb of the boy-king, Tutankhamun, have further intact tombs been identified, let alone cleared - until now. Experience the UWRF J-term Journey to Egypt program's visit to the Valley of Kings, as they see the recent excavation in progress - and learn about the discovery of a new, unopened tomb, KV 63. Its construction, grave goods and ritual objects have re-ignited the world's passion for all things Ancient Egyptian.

Outreach and Graduate Studies and the College of Arts and Sciences offer the Community Classroom series each fall and spring. University faculty share their expertise through informal presentations on a variety of topics.

All lectures are free, begin at 7 p.m. and are held at the River Falls Public Library, lower level, on the corner of Main and Union streets.

A list of scheduled sessions is on the web at www.uwrf.edu/ogs or contact the Outreach office at outreach@uwrf.edu.

2. Career Services seeking help for student interviews March 29
The Career Services office invites you to participate in or sponsor our main spring event on Thursday, March 29t, from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom titled, “Career Roadmap: Navigating the World of Work.” This event is designed to prepare graduating students for life after college by providing the opportunity to participate in:

  • Mock interviews with area employers
  • A networking luncheon with alumni
  • Dress For Success consultations
  • Professional presentations on how to negotiate salary, an HR panel of experts, how to succeed in your first job, and an alumni panel

It is important for all students to begin thinking about their next steps after graduation and this event is a perfect starting point. The variety of resources and vast opportunities to learn from professionals and alumni at Career Road Map will prepare students to conduct a successful job or graduate school search.

We would greatly appreciate your support and encouragement for this event. Please contact Career Services at 715/425-3572 if you have additional questions or would like more event information.

3. Spanish class for adults continues on March 27
The UW-River Falls Outreach office will offer a more advanced Spanish
language class for adults beginning March 27.

A continuation of Spanish I, which was offered in February and March, this
practical, proficiency-based class features creative communication-oriented activities that reflect typical situations you may encounter every day in a Spanish-speaking environment.

The noncredit classes are held on six consecutive evenings and are designed to give adults the skills to successfully communicate and enjoy travel ,whether for business or pleasure. The class fee is $85 plus the cost of books. All classes will take place on the UWRF campus with free parking.

Adults who have not taken Spanish I may be able to enroll with instructor permission. Register online at www.uwrf.edu/ogs/registration or contact Cynthia Wells-O‚Malley at 715/425-3261 or by email to: cynthia.wells-omalley@uwrf.edu.

4. Financial Planning and Insurance Class begin this spring

Insurance principals and risk management that help in identifying a client's needs are also discussed.

Classes will be held in the evenings to accommodate working professionals. Contact the Outreach office at outreach@uwrf.edu to receive notification on upcoming courses associated with the Financial Planning Certificate.
