1. Free Community Classroom Presentations in March and April The proliferation of technologies has changed the way we think, learn and decide. A comedy show has become a prime news outlet and anyone with a cell phone can videotape anything and put it on the internet for the world to see.
A” iPods, TiVo and YouTube, Oh My!” on Monday, April 14, at the River Falls Public Library, you’ll hear about new technology and its role in advertising and the news media. Presented by assistant professor in journalism, Tracy O’Connell, this free event for the entire community begins at 7 p.m.
Also don’t miss "Jerusalem: 3000 Years of Holiness" on Monday, March 10.
Outreach and Graduate Studies and the College of Arts and Sciences offer the Community Classroom series each fall and spring. University faculty share their expertise through informal presentations on a variety of topics. All lectures are free, begin at 7 p.m. and are held at the River Falls Public Library lower level on the corner of Main and Union streets.

2. St. Croix River Basin Conference on April 15
The 9th annual conference on “Protecting the St. Croix River” will be held April 15 on the UWRF campus.
The richness, beauty and diversity of the St. Croix River and its basin make protecting it a high priority. At this day-long workshop, participants will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the designation of the St. Croix and Namekagon Rivers as a National Scenic Riverway, and discuss ways to reduce and manage damaging nutrients and sediments in the St. Croix River Basin.

3. Green Communities Energy Conference May 20
UW-River Falls will host a regional conference to explore a variety of topics related to energy on Tuesday, May 20, 8:30 am- 4:30 pm at the University Center. Please plan on attending this one-day conference featuring Richard Heinberg, author and Senior Fellow, Post Carbon Institute, and Alexis Karolides from the Rocky Mountain Institute.
The event is targeted for members of business, industry, government, schools, and healthcare systems who are involved with managing, planning, operating or servicing larger scale facilities. Those who attend will gain useful information pertaining to building green and/or incorporating green operational techniques; as well as alternative energy potentials and energy conservation strategies. Breakout sessions to include information on managing and operating green facilities, introducing and incorporating green concepts, alternative energies, and local and regional green resource assistance tools and programs.
Conference fee, which includes admission to all sessions, materials, meals and refreshments, is $100 if received by April 30 or $119 if received by May 1 or later. Students with a valid ID may attend at a special rate of $35.

4. March 27 Lunch N Learn: Professional Communication
Dr. Mialisa Moline, assistant professor at UWRF, will present a workshop on professional communication. This interactive workshop offers advice on email etiquette and choosing appropriate channels for communication (e-mail, phone, memo, letter, face-to-face). The workshop will include an interactive PowerPoint presentation, workshop activities relative to written workplace communication, and a Q-and-A segment as time permits.
This event is on March 27, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. and is jointly sponsored by the River Falls Chamber of Commerce, UW- River Falls Outreach Programs and Chippewa Valley Technical College - River Falls Campus.

5. Save the Date: ‘Green’ Tourism Luncheon
Sustainability issues for the hospitality and tourism industry in the St. Croix Valley will be explored over a noon luncheon on May 23.
Sponsored by the St. Croix Valley Regional Tourism Alliance, “Greening the Tourism Industry in the St. Croix Valley” is from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Stillwater’s Water Street Inn.
The luncheon will explore such topics as making your business sustainable, tourism state certification programs, and marketing and promoting your green business to visitors.
Presenters include Gayle Sandahl Junnila, metro regional manager for Explore Minnesota Tourism; Sarah Pischer, tourism development specialist at the Wisconsin Department of Tourism; Professor Kelly Cain, director of the UWRF St. Croix Institute for Sustainable Community Development and the UWRF Wildlife, Recreation and Nature Tourism certificate program; and business owner Julie McSwain.

6. Public Comments on UWRF Sought
The public is invited to submit comments related to the quality of UWRF and its academic programs in preparation for a visit by an evaluation team of the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
The North Central Association's HLC team will visit campus April 20-23 as part of the process for the consideration of re-accreditation. This is in response to the university's request for continued accreditation; it has received accreditation from NCA since 1935.
In anticipation of the April visit, UWRF has prepared a self-study report that is available for public review at <http://www.uwrf.edu/selfstudy/>.
Public comments should include the name, address, and telephone number of the person providing the comments and can either be sent in writing to:
