Chair’s Report (Sue Walton)
-
Sue has met with the Chancellor and has attended several events related
to her new duties as Chair.
Legislative Update (Mark Kinders)
-
Discussed the newspaper articles that were printed suggesting the chancellors
in the UW System had been given raises. The reality is that the system
has updated its ranges for chancellor’s salaries so that it can be competitive
as it hires new chancellors for universities within the system.
-
Revenue projections are on target for 2004. We will be back
into heated budget issue discussions come January 2004.
Representative’s Report (Emily Ronning)
-
A draft of an issues statement for the Council of Academic Staff Representatives
was included on the back of the orientation meeting outline that Emily
provided to each of us. She encouraged us to review the draft and
send her any suggested changes.
-
From a legal standpoint, the System will be reviewing our affirmative action
policies so they don’t come under fire as was the case recently in Michigan.
-
Emily encourages everyone to visit the UW-System
Web site at www.wisconsin.edu in order to see what’s happening and
the impact it has on us.
New Business
-
We will meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 2:00 – 3:30
p.m.
-
We intend to schedule a Category B themed meeting in the future in which
employees who are in that category can come and speak about their positions
in campus.
-
Everyone should start thinking about what we can do to support academic
staff employees since no pay raises are on the horizon. There may
be grant monies we can access for this purpose.
