Artist Statement

I have always been intrigued with skin, the soft permeable fiber that covers us all. Scars, bruises and wrinkles suggest personal histories. Through movement skin stretches and wrinkles, producing new interesting places on top of the human exterior and changing the natural flow of the patterns and textures. I am fascinated with the fluidity of this substance and the interesting surfaces it creates.

Black and white photography allows me to explore skin in an analytical way. i photograph very close-up to record textures and shapes of the human surface. Using a macro lens with a very short depth of field I am able to create images that are only partially in focus. This allows me to breach the borders of familiarity and add a sense of mystery. The negative spaces in photography form equally interesting shapes.
