It is my pleasure to present the 2006-07 annual report for the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Two events during the 2006-07 academic year most clearly marked the beginning of a new era for UWRF, the opening of our new University Center and the approval of a new strategic plan. The University Center, which serves as a vibrant new hub of activity on campus, is student-centered, student-focused, funded by students, financed by students, and managed by students. Student input led to the University Center becoming one of the most sustainable facilities in the University of Wisconsin System. The students chose to tax themselves an additional $1 million in student fees to ensure that the building’s carbon footprint was minimized. It is this type of planning for the future that is embodied in the second major event of the 2006-07, the creation and approval of our institutional strategic plan, “Living the Promise.” The central component of “Living the Promise” is our commitment to prepare our students, ourselves and our communities for success, for productive and meaningful lives in this, the global century. Our students will graduate into an era of unprecedented change affecting virtually every part of their lives. What we must offer them is confidence based on their capacities to learn and adapt and learn again as a life-long habit. Their confidence will be rooted in their competence. We strive to create such a university environment by reaffirming a culture of learning for all of us at UWRF. The University Center and “Living the Promise” are just a pair of our outstanding achievements over the past academic year.
