A MESSAGE FROM CHANCELLOR ANN LYDECKER DEAR FRIENDSWHAT A GREAT YEAR WE HAVE HAD AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN RIVER FALLS. We could easily look back on this year of severe budgetary constraints and become dull, dreary and depressed about our situation. The mind jumps so quickly and easily to “lost opportunities” and “unfulfilled dreams” that result from reduced budgets. When I reflect on the 2002-2003 year at UW-River Falls, however, I arrive at a much better scenario. Despite the fiscal challenges, we can celebrate the 2002-2003 academic year! Enjoy reading the stories and data in this annual report because they highlight just how productive and successful UW-River Falls students, faculty, staff and alumni have been.
We have not done this alone. We have had the excellent encouragement and support of our alumni and friends, as well as citizens of our region. We are grateful for your help —for your financial gifts, your in-kind contributions, the internship opportunities you have provided, your attendance at athletic and performing arts events, your participation on advisory boards, your volunteerism at alumni events and with our career services, and yes, even the honest criticism that you have provided. As one of the major players in the development of rapidly-growing west central Wisconsin, UW-River Falls has wonderful opportunities before it. Our faculty and staff are committed to creating a bright and productive future for our students, our alumni, the residents of this region and the generations that follow. As the endowments in the UW-RF Foundation provide larger amounts of money for scholarships and programmatic enhancements, and as Wisconsin resumes its commitment to public higher education, this university will be even better prepared to serve this region and this state. Please remain in contact with us and let us know when and how you are ready to contribute in the years ahead. We thank you for helping us achieve our goals! Ann M.
