WORLD FOOD DAY - 2009
The University of Wisconsin – River Falls will host a program on World Food Day, Oct.16 that is free and open to the university and broader community. The topic this year is “The Global Food Crisis”, and the agenda includes:

11-12: A teleconference broadcast live from the National World Food Day Committee in Washington, DC, with host Ray Suarez and speakers Max Finberg (Director of USDA Center for Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships), Rep. Jim McGovern from Massachusetts, and Joy Phumaph (Vice President and Head of the Human Development Network at the World Bank).

12-1: A video entitled, “Universities Fighting Hunger” (which also includes suggested ways that anyone can help fight world hunger)

1-2: A presentation and question & answer session by Dr. Jackie Brux about world hunger and what we can do about it.
Dr. Brux is a development economist with wide experience in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. As a Professor of Economics, she teaches courses on economic development and international economic issues. Her research encompasses the areas of economic reforms and their impact on people, and women in development. She is also the author of a widely-used textbook, Economic Issues and Policy. Dr. Brux is also the founder and director of the UWRF Association for International Development.
