Thurs. Oct 29: “Black Gold”. This video addresses fair trade issues by focusing on the case of fair trade coffee produced in Ethiopia. It shows the benefits that can accrue to poor farmers and their communities as a result of the fair trade movement. Discussant Dr. Jackie Brux.
Tues. Dec.1: “Hecho en Los Angeles (Made in Los Angeles)”. This video traces the transformation of 3 Latina garment workers through a groundbreaking lawsuit and consumer boycott as they fight to establish a precedent to hold a U.S. retailer liable for the labor conditions under which its products are manufactured. Discussants Dr. Gregg Hadley & Shaun Duvall (Puentes Program).
Thurs. Dec.10: “PBS NOW: Immigration”. This video brings together leaders and activists to discuss possible solutions to the immigration impasse in the U.S. Discussant Dr. John Walker.
