University of Wisconsin-River Falls Administrative Policy Paper
Number: AP 25 Revised
Date Issued: November 2, 1998
Subject:Requirement for a Mandatory Residential Dining Plan

1.0 POLICY/PURPOSE:

1.1 It is the goal of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls to provide a residential dining plan that will be nutritious, economical and convenient for student use.
1.2 The residence halls on the River Falls campus were not designed to provide cooking facilities for all the residents in the halls. It is, therefore, the purpose of the University to provide a centralized dining facility with adequate facilities to feed all freshman and sophomore students residing in the residence halls.
1.3 It is the purpose of the University to operate the dining hall facility in an efficient and solvent manner that will ensure financial resources to provide for debt service payments and maintenance to the facility and equipment.
1.4 It is the goal of the University to provide a stable number of students on the residential dining plan to receive a cost effective bid from prospective food contract service companies.

2.0 OVERVIEW/BACKGROUND:

2.1 Rodli Commons was erected in 1968 to provide contract food service to University students. Freshman and Sophomore residence hall students have been required to participate on a residential dining plan as a condition of enrollment. Exemptions have been made on an individual basis for unique circumstances such as dietary requirements.
2.2 The Board of Regents Resolution dated May 5, 1972, states that for students under the age of 21:

"Those freshman and sophomore students who are not veterans, married or living with parents or guardian, shall be required to live in a University-operated residence hall when such accommodations are available."
