Falcon Daily E-Newsletter Policy

Falcon Daily is an e-newsletter designed to inform UWRF employees and subscribers of campus announcements and activities in a concise new read every Monday-Thursday. It is produced by Deb Toftness in the University Communications and Marketing Department. For more information or to view the Falcon Daily archive, visit the Falcon Daily Overview and Archive page.

Content Submission

University employees are encouraged to submit content using the Falcon Daily submission form or by emailing a short blurb (3-5 short sentences max, include links if more information is necessary) directly to falcondaily-submit@uwrf.edu. Please do not email Deb.

  • Content includes, but is not limited to, general campus announcements, employment opportunities, the day's campus events, training opportunities, retirement announcements (must be submitted from the employee's department), new hires, minor procedural changes, current higher education news links, and condolences.
  • Condolences are limited to current employees, their spouses and children and former employees. Few exceptions will be made. Student deaths are communicated by listserv to all UWRF students and are not posted in Falcon Daily. Grief counseling services are available for faculty and staff via the Employee Assistance Program through Human Resources. Students may schedule an appointment with Student Health and Counseling Services by stopping in or by calling 715-425-3884. Counseling Services also provides online resources for coping with tragedy, trauma and death.
  • Meeting notices, with the exception of search and screen open forums and shared governance (Faculty Senate, Academic Staff, and University Staff) meetings, should be posted to the campus FalconsConnect event calendar and are not published in Falcon Daily.
  • Falcon Daily does not include announcements for personal, political or monetary gain, non-UW-River Falls related announcements, and isolated department announcements (for example: a picnic for only a portion of campus). Excused absences, grant information, graduate exams and retention notices should be posted to the Academic Affairs webpage and are not published in Falcon Daily.
  • In order to keep Falcon Daily a short, new read each morning, announcements (3-5 sentences maximum) are run once and then may be run one additional time as a reminder. An event blurb will run once under "Happening Today." All upcoming events should be posted to the FalconsConnect event calendar as they are not posted in Falcon Daily until the day of the event. An event may be posted once in "Announcements" if advanced registration is needed to attend the event. An exception may be made if the announcement is supporting UWRF's strategic goals or mission.

Content Deadline

Content submissions should be received at least one working day (by 4 p.m.) prior to the requested posting date. Items submitted after the suggested deadline may not get published until the following publication day. If questions, email editor deb.toftness@uwrf.edu or falcondaily-submit@uwrf.edu.

Photo Submission

Falcon Daily welcomes submitted photos to consider. Submitted photos will be credited to the photographer unless the person requests no credit then the photo will be credited as "submitted photo." Submitted photos must include complete cutline information including who, what, when, where and a link for more information. If the photo shows five or fewer people, each must be identified with name, title, and if a student, their year in school and major.
