Hope CommUnity Center- Apopka, FL: Journey to Hope CommUnity Center to learn more about immigration

Hope CommUnity is dedicated to empowerment of central Florida's immigrant and working poor communities through education, advocacy and personal growth. Although Apopka has a population of over 40,000 people, the issues continue to go unrecognized even within the state of Florida. Over the years, to bring light and assistance to those in need, the organization has fostered the development of many self-help community and worker organizations to meet basic human needs. Upon arrival, the group will be introduced to their home stay family. Along their journey, Destination participants will learn of the many struggles Apopka has endured including poverty, immigration issues, unemployment, racial tension, gang violence, among other pressing issues. For more info, visit http://hcc-offm.org/link

**NOTE: This is an immersion experience. Destination participants on this trip will be placed with one other trip member in a local Hope CommUnity Center family where they will live for the week. Participants will interact with other Destination members throughout the week, while being truly immersed in the Apopka community.

Alternatives for Girls- Detroit, MI: Journey to Alternatives for Girls to learn more about youth homelessness and at-risk girls

Alternatives for Girls is dedicated to helping girls and young women living in the Detroit area avoid exploitation, violence, teen pregnancy, and homelessness by giving them the support, resources, and opportunities they need to lead safe, strong, and positive lives. The organization also has multiple shelter programs that house women experiencing homelessness and at high-risk girls. Each program works to provide residents with life skill training and counseling to help them transition out of the shelter, so they can either be reunified with family or start off strong on their own. Furthermore, Alternatives for Girls reaches out to those who are at a high-risk of becoming or are involved in sex work. Destination participants will learn of the struggles that an alarming number of young women in the Detroit area face, including homelessness, prostitution, gang-violence, teen pregnancy, and drug and alcohol abuse among other significant issues.
