Film Festival Rules and Regulations
Mandatory Meeting for participation: Friday, March 4, 2011 5pm St. Croix Room, UC
Competition Start Time: approx. 6:00pm/when meeting ends
Competition End Time: Sunday, March 6, 2011 approx.6:00pm/48 hours from start time.
*Films must be turned in to the Involvement Center desk in the University Center by 6pm on Sunday, March 6*

The Basics

  • Minimum length: 1 minute (includes credits)
  • Maximum Length: 5 minutess (includes credits)
  • Before time begins:
    • 5 seconds of black
    • Title card with Title, Genre, Required Elements, Team name, director & scriptwriter
    • Second Title card must state “This film made for the UWRF 48 Hour Film Fest”
    • 2 seconds of black
    • Begin Time

Equipment:

  • Participants are responsible for providing their own equipment

Genre

  • Each team draws a genre out of a hat
  • They can trade with another team
  • Once rules meeting is concluded, no changes allowed (will sign out as you leave)

Required Elements

  • At rules meeting a character and prop are drawn from a hat
  • All teams will have same required elements (genre, character, prop)

General Dos and Don’ts

  • All footage must be from 48 hour time frame
  • Only work allowed ahead of time is organizing crew/cast, securing equipment, and securing locations
  • All cast and crew must be volunteers
  • All music is used at the discretion of the producer

Keep it Legal

  • Entries must be entirely original works
  • Must be suitable for public screening
  • May not in any other way violate applicable laws and regulations 
  • No obscene or pornographic material
  • Cannot contain defamatory remarks about any real person/place/entity

Materials to submit

  • Submitted media must be standard definition television
  • 2 DVDs:
    • 1 playable DVD for screening (will not be returned)
    • 1 QuickTime file self contained data DVD (will not be returned)

Judging

  • Based on:
    • 40% Creativity
    • 30% Technical Merit
    • 30% Adherence to Genre, Required Elements, & Rules
  • Awards
    • Best Director
    • Best Actor
    • Best Technical
    • Audience Awards (by ballot at screening)
      • People’s Choice Best Picture

Hold Harmless Agreement

  • Agreed to by submitting an entry

Final Comments

  • All costs are each team’s responsibility
  • Team leader must be present at rules meeting
  • Rules are subject to change
