WSA will join with the Sociologists of Minnesota (SOM) and the Wisconsin Political Science Association (WPSA) to focus on a timely theme for this year’s conference: "Democracy: Understanding Electoral and Social Movement Challenges."
The theme reflects the social movement and electoral challenges in our social and political worlds. With this theme, we hope to explore the issues of contemporary and historical social movements and popular protest, as well as issues related to democratic participation in electoral and social movement challenges.
As with recent past conferences, there will also be sessions related to teaching and teaching practices, as well as an afternoon teaching workshop. The teaching workshop will address how to integrate global issues into the classroom, and will be facilitated by Rich Wallace and Paige Miller from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Certificates of completion of the workshop will be provided to all participants.
Hotel accommodations for the conference have been reserved at the Riverview Hotel, within walking distance of campus.
Rooms must be booked before September 10, 2012, or they will be released. Rooms will be charged at $70/night and have a tax exempt number.
When making reservations please identify yourself as a participant in the WSA/WPSA/SOM conference. The phone number for the Riverview Hotel is: 715-425-1045.
