Sustainability-based performance indicators are worthless without context. This must be context based on the best available data and analysis as it relates to familiar geographic surroundings and common understanding. In other words it must be "in a form that makes sense on the street" to the average citizen. Regardless of what combination of environmental, social, and/or economic criteria, Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and spatial relationships provide a visual reference and platform for maximizing accessibility to, and transparency of, data that is at the heart of debate in choosing one path over another, especially as it relates to comprehensive land use planning.
This section is devoted to this accessibility and transparency, and is designed to become "the go-to" GIS resource for the region. The core of this section was designed and is maintained by Dr. Charles Rader, Dr. Matt Dooley, and Mr. Ian Muelenhaus of the UWRF Department of Geography & Mapping Sciences, with much of the initial effort provided by David Brandt and Jordan Miller, both graduate students in the Sustainable Community Development Masters program.
