Drivers and Model Frameworks

Indicators and Models

An indicator is something that helps you understand where you are, which way you are going and how far you are from where you want to be. It can also alert you to a problem before it gets too bad and help you recognize what needs to be done to fix the problem.

Sustainability indicators reflect the reality that the three different segments (economic, social and environmental) are very tightly interconnected. They are useful to different communities for different reasons, but for all communities, indicators can generate discussion among people with different backgrounds and viewpoints, and, in the process, help create a shared vision of what the community should be.

Below are links to information for higher education campuses and communities addressing sustainability problems with solutions that will ultimately benefit all their stakeholders as well as the surrounding environment.  The models on the right have specific philosophies and guidelines for attaining sustainability.
